Below I provide a general guidance for prospective graduate student or postdoc.
For questions about research and collaboration, contact me directly here.
Prospective graduate student:
If you are interested in joining my team as a graduate student, visit the departmental website and check the University of Houston Graduate Programs Overview. Note the deadline for Fall '21 application is 05 January 2021. If you are a prospective student from developing countries and are looking for financial support, you can apply for the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship. I was a recipient of this prestigious grant two academic years in a row from 2015 to 2017, and if you need guidance and advice, check this FAQ link, or if your questions are not yet answered from reading that page, let me know.
Before contacting me, I encourage you to read this helpful blog that was recently written by Abhishek Tyagi about "Contacting prospective supervisors: A guide to forming your first email."
Before you start applying for graduate school and before choosing me as your advisor, I would like you to think carefully about what you want to get out of graduate school (where do you see yourself five or ten years from now?). In addition to this, read through my website, specifically check the list of my recent publications, to learn and understand my research interest and the reasons why I pursue this research.
If you are convinced that I am your ideal advisor, I encourage you to talk to current graduate students at our department to have a better idea about what graduate school is like, and familiarize yourself with the overall application process.
When you email me, consider the advice above.
Prospective postdoc:
If you are interested in joining my team as a postdoc, much of the advice I gave to graduate students can still apply to you, except that you do not need to worry about the Graduate Programs.
The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship also offers grants for postdoc, and if you'd like to apply for this, let me know. The deadline this year is November 9th, 2020. This fellowship is recurring every year.
There are other sources of funding for postdoc, and we can discuss about any potential ones.
I also encourage you to talk to current postdocs at our department to have a better idea about what being a postdoctoral researcher is like.
When you email me, consider the advice above.
